So I just wanted to tell you guys a little bit about our friend David John Broadley!
So David is from Glasgow in a place towards the east end called Garrowhill. He works at a Morrisons. He’s Funny, very Friendly (as most Glaswegians are), and Proper Scottish! He was found by my old MTC companion on Buchanan Street in Downtown Glasgow. He was in Boy’s Brigade (UK scouting program) and has moved from church to church. It was an evening after a dinner that we were able to first meet him, he lived in our area so we were passing him over. It was a limited time lesson because the place we were sitting in was going to close in 30 minutes. David was pretty Pentecostal when we met him first and it didn’t really seem like we were going to get very far with him, but we had faith. Eventually we got onto the Priesthood and I just had to pull out what I call the “Proper Scottish Haggis” Lesson. It really put things into perspective for me and for all those we teach about where the Truth really is.
“If I wanted to get proper Scottish Haggis, could I go to Miami Florida at a local Walmart? Well, of course not. But what if it was in New York and it said right on the can “Proper Scottish Haggis”, wouldn’t that be real? Well, of course not. What if a Traditional Scottish Restaurant opened up in Boston and was run by Scots, is that “Proper Scottish Haggis”? No, every single Scot would know that Scottish Haggis can only be found in Scotland.
So then what if I enjoy the haggis at the Walmart in Miami? What if I feel that’s proper haggis? Well then obviously I have never been to Scotland. Every Scot knows that and now I do too.
So if I still have you reading this email, let me explain. I might give you a cookie for reading this through too. Where is the Proper Priesthood Authority located? I can live my whole life thinking I can find happiness at the local Protestant congregation and never complain, because to me that is “Proper Scottish Haggis”. But you and me both know that the Proper Priesthood Authority is located in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, so why in the world would you cut yourself short? Why would you settle for canned mystery meat when you could have the “Proper Scottish Haggis”? It’s true that not everyone in the world gets to hear our message, but through the Comforter you can know the truth of all things and you have just gotten the opportunity, so what now?”
God works in mysterious ways, and for me, I felt like I have had the wonderful opportunity to be there along the road that led him to september 9th 2017. I am happy to report that he is a great strength to the ward and he might feed us some of his homemade “Proper Scottish Haggis” soon. 🙂
